Cooper's Hospital Visit 11/12/2010

A few weeks ago I wrote a post  about Cooper being pretty sick and another post about the results of the first MRI.  So, we were told to wait two weeks to see if this post viral thing would go away and if his eye would improve.  No such luck.

So on Friday, November 12, Cooper saw a neurologist.  She said other than his eye, she saw no problems with his development, his movements, nothing, she thought it was probably just a weakened eye and it would need a patch, but just in case, she'd like him to see an ophthalmologist.  She got him in that day to see one and we were off.

He saw a total of 3 doctors.  They all said the same thing.  His optic nerve was fuzzy, which could mean several things, pressure on his brain, lazy eye, or perhaps nothing at all.  They ordered the MRI films to have a look.  After they did that, we were told that the neurologist would give us a call sometime that evening or the following day (a Saturday, yeah right) and let us know what the next steps were, but the ophthalmologist suggested at least wearing an eye patch 3 hours per day until our follow up appointment Dec 1 (tomorrow).

Who would have guessed, but the neurologist did indeed call us back that night, on our way home, and asked us if we could admit Cooper into the hospital that night for some procedures the following day.  He was to have a spinal tap and another MRI.  They would put him to sleep and have both procedures done at once.  They would hook some sort of pressure gauge up to the spinal tap and see that the pressure on the brain is ok, as well as do all kinds of tests on his spinal fluid.

All results from these tests came back clear/normal, PRAISE THE LORD!!! The doctors are relieved, he's fine, but..... they eye is still crossed.  They tell us to do the patching, that it could take a couple of months to clear up, but they wanted to be agressive and do these test in case it could be something worse.  So, Cooper wears the patch and his eye is strengthening, but it is not back to normal yet.  We'll see what the opthalmologist says about it tomorrow.

Here are a few pictures of our little man at the hospital, he was such a trooper!  And a big THANK YOU to my Mom, who stayed with Cooper and me in the hospital that night.  Tim has to sleep at home because of his sleep apnea and Mom (Nana) was so awesome to stay with us.  She took all of these pictures too!  Wish we'd gotten one of her pulling the little guy in the wagon!  We love you MOM!

Night before 11/12 evening

Riding down to the MRI area 11/13 morning

In the MRI area waiting for the procedure 11/13 morning
After the procedure, on the way to recovery, still asleep 11/13 morning
After the procedure, back in his jammies, good as new!  Waiting on the results.  11/13 afternoon
Still waiting on the results, 11/13 afternoon, almost time to go home!!
We are praising God each day that Cooper is going to be fine.  We know that this could have turned out differently and we are so thankful!  I'll try to post tomorrow or the next day about what's next in our plan to correct Cooper's crossed left eye!

Day 8: Least favorite thing about the Holidays

Link up with Aly & Molly for the 12 Days of Christmas Blog Challenge!

This is a tough one.  I don't really have many things that I dislike about the holidays.  I can think of two things that aren't my favorites but which one is my least favorite is still up in the air.

1.  Splitting time between two places on Thanksgiving & Christmas.  Since my parents got divorced my family and my brother's family spend 1/2 of the day with my Mom and the other 1/2 with my Dad.  We switch the meail we're with them each holiday each year - for instance, in 2009 we were with Dad for lunch on Thanksgiving and Mom for dinner.  At Christmas, we switched, were with Mom for lunch and Dad for dinner.  So for 2010 that switched.  Thanksgiving:  Mom for lunch, Dad for dinner.  Christmas:  Dad for lunch, Mom for dinner.  It is hard to remember from year to year what the schedule is, but we always figure it out in the end.  The positive spin on this is that Mom and Dad get nearly equal time with all of us and there is no fighting over it, they know what to expect and that really does make things a bit simpler!

2.  Claymation.  I've talked about this before, but just to elaborate a bit more, I cannot stand claymation.  When Rudolph comes on the televison, I'm out of the room.  For some reason it just freaks me out.  I am not a fan.    I'm sure one day in the next few years I'll actually face it and watch it with Cooper, but for now, I'll avoid it at all costs.

Tomorrow is our favorite holiday recipe and I'm looking forward to sharing mine with you and reading all of your least favorite things and trying your recipes!!!

Since I'm skipping Top Two Tuesday, (I am just not organized enough right now to participate), I'm hoping to get the post out today about our little hospital visit with Cooper earlier this month.

Day 7: Holiday Craft/DIY

Link up with Aly & Molly for the remaining days of the 12 Days of Christmas Blog Challenge!
I have to admit, I didn't actually make the decoration that I'm about to suggest that you try.  I meant to, and I love the idea, and I still plan on making them, but time got short this weekend and I got lazy.

I got this idea from Good Housekeeping magazine.  It is so simple, yet so tasteful!  All you'll need is some ribbon, pine cones and a hot glue gun.

Isn't this pretty?
When I get around to making them (hopefully this coming weekend) I plan to use red, green and silver ribbons.

Basically all you have to do is loop ribbon and tie in a bow, then hot glue it to the pine cone.  Wait for it to cool and voila!  Hang these simple decorations around any door knob, cabinet knob or anywhere else you think they would look nice.

I'm looking forward to seeing some of the DIY decorations out there!  Have a great Monday everyone!

Day 6: Gift ideas

Link up with Aly & Molly for the 12 Days of Christmas!

These past couple of days have been so super busy for my family.  We've been going going going!  Today we had my hubby's family in for yet another Thanksgiving dinner.  We finally ate dinner around 7, and it turned out great.  It was super nice to spend time with his family.  They are all from NorthEastern Ohio and we do not see them as often as we would like.  We had a full house, 13 for dinner.  The most that I've ever cooked for in my life!  It was successful.

Today's blog topic is Gift Ideas.  Because I've shared my "wish list" with everyone of my family members, I don't really have any need to share here, but because I found this cool Amazon wish list gadget and because this is the very way I shared this with my family, I thought why not?

I hope to really do some blog reading today, I need to catch up on some of your blogs!

Happy Sunday everyone!

Day 5: Favorite Holiday Movie/TV Show Special

Link Up with Aly & Molly for the 12 Days of Christmas Blog Challenge!

My all time favorite holiday movie is:

I remember when Home Alone came out in the theaters.  My family went to see it and I got it for our VCR the following Christmas.  I have watched it nearly every year since then.  Sometimes two or three times.  I love the music in this movie and the scenes when the robbers try to rob Kevin's house.  He was such a smart fictional character!

My second favorite Christmas movie is:
This is the movie where my husband and I really fell in love. We had been dating, but it was an outing to see this movie, having dinner and perusing around one holiday night when we really fell in love.

What are your favorite Holiday Movies???

Day 4: Tips/Tricks to a Budget Friendly holiday season

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  I ate way too much and had such a good time with my family, and hope you did too.

Now back to the blog challenge!

I don’t have many tips/tricks for a budget friendsly holiday season, but here are the few that I have.

  1. Save a little bit of money towards Christmas every time you get paid.  (join a Christmas club or some sort of savings plan at your bank/credit union, etc)  We’ve done this for the past three years and it has really helped!  This way we know what we are going to have, and we pull it out of our account around the beginning of November to start shopping for Christmas.
  2.  Establish a budget.  This is majorly important.  If you know what you’re allowed to spend on each person you can shop within your “budget.”
  3. Make a list of what you’ve bought – including $ amount spent on each person – SUBTOTAL as you spend.  This will keep you within your established budget.

That’s it from me, these three things really do help keep me aligned with what I can spend on the gifts for my loved ones.

Day 3: Most meaningful gift/best gift you've received

This is nearly like a Top Two Tuesday post that I recently participated in with Taylor @ The Undomestic Momma!
I'll give a couple more just for fun!
3.  My Son!  He is a precious gift and I am thankful to have him in my life.  Cooper brightens even the worst day.  Coop is such a smart and sweet boy!  He was almost 6 months in this picture.  I love to look back at the pictures of him as an itty bitty baby!

4.  My Engagement/Wedding Ring   My hubs did a wonderful job picking out the rings that I'll wear for the rest of my life.  I LOVE THEM!  I'm biased, but I think they are gorgeous!

Two Mama's Cookin'

Hello all my sweet blogger friends!  I wanted to share some news with you!  My friend Shannon and I have started a cooking blog.  We'll be sharing some of our favorite recipes as well as some that we've just recently discovered.  We both like to try new recipes and we've got plenty of resources from so many of you out there willing to try all kinds of new things!  We'll link back to you and give you all the credit!

Come on over and check out our little cookin' blog: Two Mama's Cookin' :)

Top Two Tuesday!

Link up with Taylor for Top 2 Tuesday!
Today over at The Undomestic Momma it's Top Two Tuesday, Top Two Things on Your Christmas Wish List!
1.  Because I love to cook and bake, this item is at the top of my list this year!  I've never used one, so I'm not sure how great it is, but it sure looks nice!!  It's a PourFect Scrape-a-Bowl Flat Beater.  I need another one for my Kitchen-Aid stand mixer and this would be "pourfect" :)

2.  A laptop bag for my new laptop.  I have two picked out, and either one would be great.
I love Christmas and love everything about it!  My family together, Jesus's Birthday, what a splendid time of year!  A time to be thankful and to give some love to those who are most special to us!

I'm looking forward to reading your top two wish list items for this Christmas!

Day 2: Black Friday/General Shopping Tips & Tricks

Link up with Aly & Molly for the 12 Days of Christmas Blog Challenge!

I wish I had some Black Friday shopping tips!  I always go with my Mom and sometimes we get the deals, and sometimes we don't.  I am not willing to stand in line at Best Buy 3 days ahead of time just to get an outdated cheap computer.  I would rather cut off all of my hair.  Mom and I usually hit up Kohl's and Target.  We wander around the mall too, but that is usually just to people watch.  We are really really easy going Black Friday shoppers.  It is mostly for our entertainment that we actually go out into the madness.  I LOVE IT.  Quality time with Mom.  The best!  My mom is awesome!

Day 1: Christmas Traditions

Link up with Aly & Molly for the 12 days of Christmas Blog Challenge!

Christmas Traditions

Christmas traditions in the Johnson household since Tim and I have been married are not major traditions.  We usually go to church on Christmas Eve.  Then we get home and hang out with the family before the kids head to bed.  Once they are in bed, we sort and place the presents under the tree.  The sorting is normally pretty easy for a couple of reasons.   1) We pick out a different color/pattern of paper for each family member and all of their gifts are wrapped in “their” paper.  And 2) Stephanie usually has the most gifts because Andrew opts for something large and expensive.  After that, Tim and I put the gifts in the stockings and head to bed.

On Christmas morning, usually pretty early, we get up, un-wrap gifts and have breakfast.  Normally some sort of hot delicious breakfast!  Then we all get showered and pack the car to head south to visit my family.  We visit both my dad and my mom on Christmas day, eat way too much food and receive way too many gifts, then get back in the car and head home.

Like I said, nothing major, just things that we do.  This year, I expect things will be a bit different since Stephanie has moved out L and she and Andrew both have significant other’s that they may want to spend time with.

I cannot wait to read about some of YOUR family’s traditions!

Weekend Recap

I had a great weekend!  Did everyone else?

I LOVE birthday weekends!!  Birthdays are the onetime per year that should be about YOU and just you!  My family always made a big deal of birthdays and so it continues still!

A group of 7 of us started the weekend on Thursday night by going to Harry Potter at 12:02 A.M. Friday.  What a great movie!

When Tim & I finally woke up on Friday morning, we went to breakfast at Cracker Barrel and then did a little bit of window shopping for some presents we’ll be putting together eventually.  Then we hung out and caught up on our DVR’d shows until around 4.  Stephanie came over and she and I headed up to pick up Cooper after that.    That night, Ryan came over and the 5 of us had dinner, our Johnson Family Favorite Chicken in the Wok, which is really called Rosamarina Chicken.  YUMMY!

Saturday was so fun!  My brother, nephew, Mom and her husband came up to visit for my birthday!  They brought me presents, and an AWESOME cake!  It was so delicious, chocolate with cream cheese icing.  So so so good!  My mom made us all tacos, one of my favorites, and we chowed down then ate too much cake and had a blast.  Layne, my nephew, and Cooper played so well together, such good happy baby boys!  Layne is 6 months older than Coop, so a 19 month old and 13 month old playing is super fun to watch!  That night, it was girls’ night!  We went to eat at Maggiano’s then to TGI Friday’s for a drink.  None of us are big club people, so Friday’s was nice, we sat, had a drink and chewed the fat some more J

Sunday was fantastic too!  My dad and his girlfriend came up, we took some family pictures (a few are below), for our Christmas cards (THANKS SHUTTERFLY!), and we went to lunch.  Then we all headed back to our house, had MORE cake, red velvet this time!  My dad bought the cake at a local bakery near him, and it was delicious!  More presents, cards and overall a great time!  That evening, Erica and Mel came over for some cake and when they went home, Cooper went to bed, and soon after, so did Tim and I.

What a weekend!  I’m so thankful for great family & friends!

Harry Potter & Birthday Weekend!

Today is my Friday, yay!  I couldn't be more thrilled!!!

Tonight, my hubby and me, my two stepkids (Steph & Andrew) and their boyfriend (Ryan)/girlfriend (Sami), and a friend of mine, Miranda, are all going to see the latest Harry Potter movie.  It starts at 12:02am.  I'm so excited.  My best friend Erica is going to come to our house and sleep in Steph's old room to take care of Cooper and she's also going to bring him to daycare in the morning.  Isn't she sweet???  LOVE HER!

My birthday is Sunday.  So.... this weekend should be filled with lots of fun stuff, right??  I mean, I'm going to be the big 3-0!  This 30 thing doesn't bother me a bit.  Could it be because my hubby is nearly 15 years older and I know I'll always be young compared to him?  Maybe.  OR, maybe its because my life is so filled with happiness that I couldn't care less how old I am?  Either way, it's a great feeling to have!

Tomorrow, Tim and I are going to try to sleep in, but not too late, and have some alone time.  We might work on our bedroom since it's a complete disaster with the construction going on.  (Tim is rebuilding our closet and currently we have no closet in our bedroom. Post about this to come later.)

Saturday, My mom, her husband, my brother,  my niece and my nephew are coming up to celebrate my day.  We are going to make tacos and eat cake.  Then Saturday night, it's GIRLS NIGHT!  I'm going to go out with Shannon, Erica and Joni.  I miss these girls and cannot wait to spend some QT with them!  Joni's birthday is on Tuesday the 23rd, so we normally try to celebrate together.

Sunday, no plans.  But something good.  It's going to be a family day and I'm looking forward to it.  I believe we'll try to do our family picture for our Christmas card since I'm in such a "Christmas-y" mood.  Other than that, nothing.

Compared to last weekend (post to come later) when we were stuck in the hospital for Coop, this weekend should be a blast!

Happy Weekend to you all!

Christmas-y Mood

I've changed my blog background/header AGAIN.  Could it be because I am fickle, or is it simply because I've been doing Christmas shopping and am ready for this holiday season with my family?  I'd like to think it's the latter of these two options, but if you ask my family, they'll tell you that I am also pretty fickle.

I LOVE to rearrange the furniture in our house.  Especially in our bedroom.  Moving the furniture around makes me feel like I've moved into a new room!  It's new and refreshing ever now and then!

I also love getting and switching cell phones. I've had an iPhone now for almost 3 years and I'm so ready for a different type of phone, but I don't think I could ever give up the abilities of an iPhone!

Purses!  I change purses every couple of weeks.  I have a few that I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE and I switch back and forth between them all of the time.

Laptops.  I like to get a new one every couple of years.  For my Christmas present this year, I got a new laptop.  I am counting this as my Christmas/Birthday present, so it's ok that we already bought it.

Anyway, I am in a Christmas-y mood.  I can't wait to put up our tree and start playing Christmas music.   Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to wish my time away, I just love this time of year and Christmas is right around the corner!!

Are you all ready for the Christmas season??

Top Two Tuesday

Top Two Tuesday with Taylor :)
It's Tuesday which means it's time for TTT with Taylor!  I've been thinking and praying for you Tay.

The topic for today is Top Two Favorite Jobs.

1.  TARGET. I worked at Target during my junior and senior years of high school and then during holidays during my freshman year of college.  I absolutely loved it there.  I worked with the best people and had the best time!  I started off in college majoring in business so that I could "grow up" and work at Target for a living.  Once I started the for profit classes, I realized I didn't want to go that route and switched to Public Finance, but I still love shopping at Target, it's the greatest store!

2.  Sallie Mae.  My current job.  I've been here since July 2004.  I started off as a temp and got hired on in February 2005.  I really do love it here.  I have had a good run here and hope that I'm here for quite a long time.  I have had 3 different jobs since working here, now a Sr. Financial Analyst.  I have a great boss, a great team and my hubby and best friend also work here.  I've really got it made as far as jobs go.  The environment is rapidly changing at Sallie though because of the recent legislation that has passed, so we are decreasing workforce.  I would love to make it through all of the cuts, but I know that my future is in the hands of the Lord and I'm keeping the faith that his plans are the best for me!

Me and You, Just Us Two

So, I was reading sweet Nicole's blog, and I loved reading her answers about her and her Beau in her "me and you, just us two" post, and I decided to copy her post.

Without further adieu, here are 30 questions about "just us two."

1. What are your middle names?  Allen & Anne (isn't that cute both start with A =] )

2. How long have you been together? Almost 3 years now, we've been together since December 19, 2007

3. How long did you know each other before you started dating?  A few years, but we only started getting really close starting in August 2007.  We talked almost non-stop from August to December.

4. Who asked who out?  Tim asked me of course!  I turned him down for awhile, but finally agreed, thank goodness I did.

5. How old are each of you?   He is 44, I am 29 (for a few more days anyway)

6. Did you go to the same school?  Nope.  Tim is almost 15 years older than me, so even if we had, we wouldn't have been in school together.

7. Are you from the same home town?  No, Tim is from Ohio and I'm from southern Indiana.

8. Who is the smartest?  We are both smart, but I'd say Tim is because of his extra life experience! :)

9. Who majored in what?  Tim majored in math, I majored in public finance.

10. Who is the most sensitive? Me, hands down.

11. Where is the furthest you two have traveled together as a couple?  Gatlinburg, TN

12. Who has the worst temper? Me, I can fly off the handle, but I'm TRYING so hard to calm down, and Tim doesn't get upset very easily very often.  We definitely balance one another out on this.

13. How many children do you want? We have one son now, and are hoping to have at least one more.  If we have a girl, we'll probably be finished, but if we have a boy, we might try for #3 for a girl, but 3 is the  max!  Remember, Tim already has two kiddos, who are my wonderful step kids, Steph and Andrew.  LOVE THEM!!

14. Who does the cooking? We both do.  We switch depending on what's being fixed.  I'm definitely the baker of the house though.

15. Who is more social? Depends on the situation, we can both be social.  Tim is definitely the schmoozer of the two of us.

16. Who is the neat freak? Again, it can be both of us.  Sometimes Tim goes crazy when things are out of order, sometimes I get really upset if the house is in complete disarray.

17. Who is the most stubborn? We are both stubborn, but I believe I'm worse.

18. Who wakes up earlier? Me.  Tim will sleep and sleep and sleep.  I so wish I could sleep like him.  I haven't slept like that since Cooper was born, and I'm not even sure I can anymore.

19. Where was your first date? His house.  We got Subway and hung out at his place.

20. Who has the bigger family? Tim.  He has 4 brothers and sisters.  I only have one brother.  His siblings all have 3 or more kids too, so it makes gatherings on his side pretty large.

21. Do you get flowers often? Nope, and I like it that way.  Flowers are pretty, but they die, and I prefer for us to spend our money on things that will last.

22. How do you spend the holidays? We usually are with my family on the actual days of the holidays.  Thanksgivings in the past we haven't gathered with Tim's family at all.  Christmases we visit his family either the weekend before or the weekend after.

23. Who is more jealous? I'm not really sure.  We don't really have things to be jealous about.

24. How long did it take to get serious? Not long.  We started dating on December 19 and got engaged on January 1st.  I cannot believee how fast it was, but it was great!  Once we knew we knew and we didn't want to wait.

25. Who eats more? Generally Tim, but I certainly have my moments.  Sometimes I can eat a ton.

26. What do you do for a living?  Tim is a mainframe storage programmer and I am a financial analyst.

27. Who does the laundry? We both do.  We do laundry on Thursday nights, we set a load in the morning so that its finishing when we get home from work.  Then we both help one another the rest of the night.  I LOVE doing our laundry on Thursday nighs because we don't have to spend an entire day on the weekends doing it.  I usually do one load on Sunday night just to get the stuff clean from the weekend, but if I don't, it's no big deal, everything else is already done!

28. Who's better with the computer?  You would think Tim since he's a programmer for a living, but he's a MAINFRAME programmer, whiche means it's ME.  I'm better with the personal computers, which is not saying much!

29. Who drives when you are together?  We swap.  We ride to work together most days.  I drive to work, he drives us home.  Otherwise we take turns as well.  We make a pretty good team!

30. What is your song?    We have a few, but I think our best song is Bonnie Raitt's Something to Talk About.  Since we work together we were talked about quite a bit when we first started hanging out, and then when we got together, we thought this song was made for us.

This is a picture of us at Christmas in 2008.

What are your answers for these 30 questions of "me and you, just us two"???   Please re-post so that I can read about you!

Brooklyn & Cooper

One of my wonderful co-workers, Nicole, just happened to have her daughter on the same evening that we brought Cooper into the office.  Mommy had to post month end accruals so Daddy brought Cooper in so that they weren't waiting out in the car for me.  Cooper is just about 3.5 months older than Brooklyn and she is DARLING!  Such a sweetie girl with the cutest little smile.  Just look at her in her little headband and Peyton Manning jersey, isn't she adorable?  The pictures were taking on Nov. 1, the night the Colt's played on Monday Night.

I think Coop had a good time playing with Brooklyn, too bad we live so far apart or we'd plan some play dates!  Thanks to Nicole for sending me the pictures of these two precious kiddos!

Wow, the last day....  I cannot believe we made it!  I have really enjoyed reading so many of the participant's blogs!  I've met so many new folks and have learned so much.  This challenge has been a good one, tough at times, but it has made me do some real thinking and I appreciate that.  Thanks so much to Katie for gathering us all together for the 30 Day Blog Challenge! :)

I'm not quite sure what kind of picture I am supposed to post for this as it is simply "A Picture."  So, I am going to share with you one of my most favorite pictures.  This was the very time we'd captured Cooper smiling.  He was sleeping and I think he must have been having a nice dream.  He was only 11 days old in this photo.  So precious.  I sure miss him being so little sometimes.

Day 27: Pets

Visit Katie and Link up for the 30 Day Blog Challenge!

Pets.  I don't really have any.  Before Tim and I got married I lived with my best girl friend Erica, and we had 3 cats (Ashes, Cinders & Nico) and a Puggle (Rudy).  They all stayed with Erica because Tim is not a big fan of cats, and he already had two dogs living at his house.  I still miss Rudy like crazy, he's such a sweet dog, but I know he's well taken care of by Erica and the cats are spoiled as well!  Rudy kept me busy during some rough times in my life.

We had two dogs living at our house until last weekend when Stephanie moved out.  Steph took her dog, Muffin, to her mom's house with her when she left, so that just leaves Andrew's dog, Madison, at our house now.  Madison is a 100 lb Great Pyrenees.  She is sweet, but she is constantly barking.  She counter surfs and steals food off of the kitchen table.  To be really honest, she is not my favorite thing in the whole world.  BUT she makes Andrew happy and that makes us happy.

I always had a dog growing up, but I'm ready for a break.  When Andrew moves out and Madison goes with him, I think we'll have a nice long break from dogs, at least big dogs. I'm sure Cooper will want a pet sometime in the future, but we'll put it off as long as we can.
